Vincent George Matranga, age 94, passed away peacefully on 9/6/22 at his home in Granite Bay. Born in 1927 to Vince and Rose Matranga, he was the oldest of eight children. He graduated from Elk Grove High School, class of 1946, where he served as president of the Future Farmers of America and school newspaper editor. In 1948 he married his beloved wife, Mary, and they recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary. Vincent joined the Sacramento Police Department in 1950, retiring after 32 years at the rank of Detective Sergeant. In retirement Vincent and Mary enjoyed gardening, camping, and traveling around the United States and Italy.
Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sam (Betty) and Bob (Barbara), and sister Laura Asay. Vincent is survived by his wife Mary, his children Vincent Michael Matranga (Jacqueline), Kathleen Matranga-Cooper (Robert), and Mary Ann Burford (Lon), grandchildren Megan Burford, Evan Burford (Monica), Nicholas Cooper, Vincent Edward Matranga, great granddaughter Lorena Burford, brother Ron (Eddie), sisters Anita Jones, Rosemary Hunter, Linda Tyler, and 14 nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, 9/21/22, 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. and internment at noon, at Calvary Cemetery and Funeral Center, 7101 Verner Avenue, Citrus Heights. Donations may be made in Vincent’s memory to the American Diabetes Association or the Sacramento Police Department Widows & Orphans Aid Association.
