Victoria D. Pires

Victoria (Lessa) Pires, 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on the night of December 10, 2024. Sacramento Ca.

She was born on January 3rd, (registered 22nd) 1940, to Domingas Alemao Lessa, and Joao Pires, in the Country of Cabo Verde, on the island of Brava, in the village of Lavadura.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Joaquim (Jack / Quim) Pires.

Once married, she immigrated to the United States first setting foot in Brooklyn, New York, then San Francisco and then finally calling Sacramento home, specifically Oak Park since 1967.

Victoria worked at the Blue Diamond Almond Growers factory for 25 years, retiring in 1995.

Victoria was well known for her sweet and angelic kindness shown to all she knew or met.  Her home was forever open and welcoming to many of her friends and family, no one ever left her home hungry; she made sure of that.  She was part of the small Cape Verdean community of Sacramento and loved maintaining those relationships.

She was a devout Catholic and cherished her Christian faith, she and her husband instilled their love of God in their children and encouraged them to always trust in God, “fe na deus”.

Victoria is survived by her three children, Biatriz, Johnny (Claudette), Maria (Lawrence), her stepdaughter Theresa (Freddy), 9 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Florinda Fernandes, Maria Lessa, Alcinda Gonzales (Ayers), Julia Benjamin, Elizabeth Ferreira (Tony), and her brother David Pires.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Antonio Pires, Daniel Pires and Eugenia Graca (Joao).

Victoria adored her family and friends (who adored her as well), her love and friendship will be missed dearly.
