Teresita Contawe-Ramos

Teresita Contawe-Ramos, born in Bicol, Camarines Norte, Philippines passed away on February 6, 2023.  She was just 11 days away from celebrating her 79th birthday. She was born on February 17, 1944.

Mama, Madir, Mother, Ate Bing, Tita Bing, Bebing, Tita, Tess, Lola, and Grand-Lola is what her loved ones and friends fondly call her. In her lifetime, she was twice uprooted from the comfort of her familiar surroundings. First, was when she was brought to live in Manila by her then-new husband, a city which is figuratively far from the small provincial town where she grew up and literally hundreds of miles away from her family. Then the second time was when she immigrated to the United States in October 2001, a literally and figuratively foreign land with a much different culture, and this time around, she was thousands of miles away from friends and families. In both instances, she embraced the challenges of starting a new stage in her life. She mostly stayed around the Sacramento County area where she spent the last days of her life.

She was survived by her husband of 59 years, Demetrio “Nonoy” Ramos, Jr., their daughters, Marife and Rose, and their sons, Marlon, Mannix, and Michael. One of her greatest joys is being surrounded by her grandchildren, Robert, Christian, Jean Claire, JM, Heaven, Megan, Tim, Tobey, Louis and last, but definitely not least, her great-granddaughter, Emma.

Although Teresita was not very social, she easily became a very close friend and Tita to everyone, especially to those she worked with at Goodwill. Her doctors and nurses adored her. Taking very good care of her children and her husband became the most important career in her life and she could claim success at it. She shies away from the spotlight but always took delight in shining the spotlight on her children’s, grandchildren’s, and her husband’s accomplishments. She was a very good cook and a very skilled seamstress. Hers was the sweetest voice one could have heard through a karaoke singing performance. She loved bargain-hunting — Macy’s and Nordstrom pale in comparison to her thrift stores.

Our hearts are broken by her passing, but we are also comforted by the thought that she is no longer suffering and is now in the company of our Lord and loved ones who went before her.

There will be a viewing from 4:00 to 7:00 pm PST on Friday, March 3, 2023. The memorial service and Catholic mass will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00 am. These events will be held at Calvary Chapel, 7101 Verner Avenue, Citrus Heights CA 95621.

Our family hopes that you can be with us as we all give our final farewell to our beloved mother, Tita, Lola, friend, sister, and our father’s greatest love.
