Susana Topasña Taijeron

With heavy hearts, the Taijeron Family announces the passing of our beloved Nana, Susana “Chana” Topasña Taijeron. Susana hailed from Hagatña and Barrigada, Guam, and was born in February 1936 to Paterno T. Topasña and Ana Leon Guerrero Topasña. A steadfast member and one of the  founders of the Guamanian Community Club of Sacramento for over 50 years and a devoted Catholic, she was a true matriarch whose cooking and generosity (chenchule’) was known throughout the CHamoru community and beyond. She took in many family members and friends throughout the years, showing them the same love and care no matter how long they needed to stay. As a child on Guam, she helped raise her younger siblings after her mother passed away and stayed in her sister’s house to care for her sister’s children. Each grandchild and great-grandchild has a special connection with her and her crochet and sewing skills, as we hold dear our many hats and scarves from her. Susana donated countless hats throughout the years and had recently taught her great-grandson how to crochet. Chana passed peacefully in her home in April 2025.

Susana, “Chana,” had 12 siblings and was married to Ignacio Cepeda Taijeron, with whom she had 8 children. She is preceded in death by her husband Ignacio and her 2 children, Michael and Joseph. Susana is survived by 6 children: Anthony, Alan, Lisa, Amanda, Glenn, and Daniel; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and her sister Margaret. She will be truly missed.
