Ruth Agnes Duff

Ruth Agnes Duff returned home to Our Lord on August 6, 2023 at her residence in Roseville, CA.  Ruth was born on February 7, 1915 in Butte, Montana to her parents Owen & Helen McNamara.  The family moved to Portland, Oregon when she was a young child.  She attended St. Andrews Grade School, Jefferson High School, St. Vincent Nursing School, and graduated from the University of Portland in 1964 with a BA in History.

Over the years she studied art both at Portland State University and University of California at Davis.

Ruth was a caring mother, a gourmet cook, a meticulous homemaker & gardener, an incredible seamstress, an accomplished artist, a serious student of Civil War History, and a student of Spanish.

She married Dr. Thomas Duff in Portland in 1939, and they resided in Baker, Oregon during WW II where their two children, Mary Bachand of Citrus Heights, CA, and Thomas Duff of Spokane, WA, were born. In 1948 the family moved to Portland where they resided for 39 years before finally retiring to Roseville, California.

Ruth was preceded in death by her faithful husband, her parents, her three siblings, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She is survived by her two children, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

There will be a rosary recited for Ruth on August 22 at 10:30 am at Calvary Cemetery & Funeral Center, followed by a Catholic Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, and Committal Service at 12:00 pm.  There will be a reception from 4 to 6 pm at Mary Bachand’s residence, and all are welcomed.
