Rosie Sanchez was called to heaven on January 9, 2023 in Sacramento, California.
Rosemarie Carla Ornelas was born to Joe and Julia Ornelas in Sacramento on March 15, 1937.
Rosie attended Immaculate Conception grade school and graduated from Saint Francis High School in 1955. She attended Sacramento City College and graduated with a BA in Social Science from Sacramento State University.
She married Rudolph Sanchez in 1960. They spent their life together in Sacramento, California.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rudy; her parents Joe and Julia Ornelas; and several close cousins and other relatives.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Rudolph J. Sanchez, Juliette Sanchez, Jo-Anna (Sanchez) and Gabriel Perez, and Dolores (Sanchez) and Trevor Mensik; her grandson and his wife, Joseph and Stephanie Sanchez-Perez; her granddaughters Halle Perez, Kaitlin and Scarlet Mensik; her grandson Paycer Mensik; and her great grandson, Javier Sanchez-Perez.
Rosie worked at the Sacramento County Hospital (now UC Davis Medical Center) as a secretary and financial counselor. She spent the latter part of her career working in the Sacramento County Department of Social Services. She retired as a volunteer/student coordinator in 2000 after 20 years of service.
She was also very active in the Sacramento community. Rosie was involved in the Latino Caucus. She was a volunteer for the Community Service Organization where she organized US Citizenship classes. She was a longtime advocate for farm worker rights.
Rosie was active in the Sacramento Catholic community, especially All Hallows, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Immaculate Conception parishes.
The family thanks the caregivers and nurses at Revere Court for helping to care for Rosie during the final months of her life.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the Chapel at St. Mary Cemetery & Funeral Center located at 6509 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento, CA 95820
