Rosalie Ann Rashid

Rosalie Ann Rashid passed away on February 24, 2024, at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento, CA. Her crossing over followed a short stay in the hospital. We thank her health care and hospice teams for their dedicated and compassionate care during her stay.

Rosalie was born on October 3, 1938, in Sacramento, CA to Salvatore and Josephine Damiani. Born into a family of Sicilian Albanian descent, Rosalie remained close to her Arbereshe roots. She attended St. Francis grammar school and high school and remained connected to the Franciscan community throughout her adult years.

Pursuing a teaching career, Rosalie attended Sacramento State College and San José State College, graduating from there with a Bachelor’s degree and a teaching credential. She taught at James Marshall Elementary and Ethel Philips Elementary schools until shortly before the adoption of her son, Paul.

Being a member of a musical family, Rosalie was an avid pursuer of the arts, taking advantage of the many musical venues, films, and art exhibits in the area. In her later years, she was a student at Sacramento City College and often participated in children’s plays presented by the drama department.

The interior life was important to Rosalie, and she was a parishioner at St. Francis Church, as well as a member of a Dharma group, and a faithful supporter of The Franciscan Living Urban Spiritual Center and cancer research.

She was loved and respected by her friends and neighbors and by many others who knew her. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, Salvatore and Josephine Damiani, and leaves behind her son, Paul Rashid, of Germany, her loving brother, Tony Damiani, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and by her close friend, Laura Hulst of Colorado.

She will be remembered for her independent spirit, generosity, and openness.
