Robert (Bob) James Tomasini

With his loving family by his side, Bob Tomasini passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, and coach, Bob’s life was one of dedication, leadership, and deep love for his faith, family, and community.

Born and raised in Fortuna, California, Bob excelled in both baseball and basketball at Fortuna High School, where he was known for his talent, teamwork, and competitive spirit. His love for sports continued as he went on to attend St. Mary’s College and later earned his master’s degree from Humboldt College. Bob later returned to his alma mater as a teacher and a coach, guiding and inspiring young student athletes at Fortuna High School.

Bob enjoyed taking getaway trips with Sheila and their friends and family. He spent his time golfing, boating, camping, and relaxing in the pool. He was always up for a spirited game of “PIG” in the pool with his children and grandchildren, and he treasured Sunday family dinners, where lively discussions were filled with wisdom and laughter.

Bob found great strength in his faith and community, dedicating many hours to The Gathering Inn, a nonprofit organization that serves the unhoused. He prayed the rosary daily, rarely missed Mass, and served as a Lector for many years. Committed to helping those in need, Bob also dedicated over 50 years to Rotary, serving in various leadership roles and actively supporting community fundraisers.

Bob’s 41-year professional journey in education was marked by excellence and dedication. He began his career as a teacher and department chairman before serving as vice principal in Eureka, California. His leadership led him to the River Delta, where he took on roles as principal, assistant superintendent, and ultimately superintendent for 21 years. In 1989, he accepted a position at the Roseville Joint Union High School District, where he served as superintendent until his retirement. Even in retirement, Bob’s passion for education never wavered. He continued to serve his community as a trustee for Sierra College and as a member of the Placer County Office of Education (PCOE) board, always striving to make a difference in the lives of students and educators.

Bob’s legacy is one of service, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and education. His impact will be felt for generations to come, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Sheila Tomasini, and their children: Steve Tomasini (Michelle), Tina Burrell (Jeff), Cindy Garcia (Pat), Cathy Konen (Charlie), Jaime Thompson (Robbie), and their adopted son Kent Parry (Renee). He is also survived by his adored sister, Gina Bird and her husband Larry. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Inez Tomasini, his brother Richard, and his son-in-law, Jeff Burrell, who passed away in January. Together, Bob and Sheila were blessed with 18 grandchildren,12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who brought them endless joy and pride.

A rosary (9:30) and funeral mass (10:00) will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, located at 615 Vine Ave., Roseville, on March 17, 2025. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Forever in our hearts, Bob’s faith, wisdom, and kindness will continue to guide us. May he rest in the eternal peace of God’s loving embrace.
