Patricia Anita Massengale

Patricia Anita (Patty) Massengale (Ortiz), 71 of Rancho Cordova, California passed away Sunday March 23, 2025, peacefully in her home surrounded by family.

Patty was born in Topeka, Kansas, and later moved to the Orangevale area of Sacramento, where she grew up. She attended Andrew Carnegie Middle School and graduated from Bella Vista High School in 1973. Patty’s career reflected her unwavering commitment and dedication, as she spent 36 years with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, ultimately serving as the Warrants Supervisor.

Patty married Jeffrey Massengale in 1979, and together they made their home in Rancho Cordova for most of their married life. She enjoyed vacations spent camping along the coasts of Oregon and Washington. She was an avid supporter of her sons, David and Scott and loved watching David play soccer during his youth and took great pride in attending Scott’s high school marching band performances, including one of the highlights when he performed at Disneyland with the Cordova High School band. Patty also deeply treasured the time spent with her mother and held those memories close to her heart.

After her retirement, Patty cherished spending time with family and friends and embarked on many memorable road trips with her husband to visit family in Topeka, Kansas. Along the way, they enjoyed exploring antique shops and taking in the sights.

Patty enjoyed attending local craft fairs and bingo with her sisters, as well as their annual girl’s trip to Las Vegas for a weekend of shopping, shows and laughter, and always came back with a new piece of jewelry to add to her collection.

Patty’s love for her family knew no bounds, especially when it came to her grandson, Jackson. She treasured every moment spent with him, whether swimming in the pool or in the kitchen, where she lovingly taught him how to cook from scratch—making dishes like macaroni and cheese and pancakes created lasting memories for both of them.

Patty is preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Mercedes Ortiz and her beloved baby girl Melisa Massengale.

She is survived and deeply missed by her loving husband, Jeffrey S. Massengale, with whom she shared 46 years of marriage; her sons, Scott and David Massengale; her grandchild, Jackson Massengale; her brothers, Tony (Janice), Chris (Margo), and Perfecto Ortiz; and her sisters, Rose Lipka (late spouse, William) and Irene Balderas (Sergio). Patty also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Services will be held April 8, 2025, at Divine Savior 9079 Greenback Lane Orangevale, CA 95662 at 10:30 a.m. Mass, reception to follow at the church. Inurnment at 2:00 p.m. at Calvery Cemetery.
