Oswald John Fett III

August 31, 1954 – October 25, 2024

Oswald John Fett III, known as John, OJ, and sometimes even Boba, was born on August 31, 1954, in Portland, Oregon. The third of four children, John grew up in Roseburg and Ashland, Oregon and then Redding, California.  He graduated from Shasta High School in Redding and went on to pursue his love for architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his degree in 1977.

After college, John moved to Sacramento, where he began his career in commercial real estate. It was there that he met Mary Geddry, and together, they welcomed four sons:  John IV, Gabrial, and twins Alexander and Christopher.

In 2008, he married Janice Conlon Woodring, with whom he created a rich and rewarding life in Lincoln, California. They traveled widely together and had many adventures. John took pride in his profession and in his community, serving on the Catta Verdera Homeowners Association, as a contributor to the Lincoln Economic Development Committee, and many other endeavors.

John was known for his gregarious, larger-than-life personality and boundless enthusiasm.  He was an extrovert with a capital “E.”  John was generous, kind, and unafraid to take on any challenge.  He was a problem solver, advocate and friend who could always be counted on by neighbors, friends, and family. An eternal optimist, John loved life deeply, especially his sons and his stepchildren, Joe and Megan, and his grandchildren. (Trinitee, Finley, Caden, Zarin, Emery, Brooks, James, Teddy and Sloane).  He was a wonderful brother to Teresa Patton and Diana Candee.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oswald John Fett II, his mother Laura Patton and his oldest sister, Christine Linell Fett.
John will be remembered for his boundless optimism, love of life, and the many ways he brightened the world around him. He was also, in the words of Janice, “the bravest person I know,” facing cancer with determination and grace.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a life well-lived. He wanted the best for all of us, and his memory will continue to inspire all who loved him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Calvary Cemetery and Funeral Center, 7100 Verner Ave., Citrus Heights, CA  95621.  Visitation at 10am, Funeral Service at 11am, Inurnment at Noon and reception immediately following.
