Mary Lucille Sozzi

Mary Lucille Sozzi
Mary Lucille Sozzi was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She died peacefully in her sleep on August 14, 2023 at the age of 99 years old.
Mary was born on April 17, 1924. She was the daughter of John and Clara Negro, both who immigrated from Italy.
Mary was very proud of her Italian heritage. She enjoyed Italian cooking and festivals, mushroom hunting, large Italian family gatherings in San Francisco, Palo Alto and Sacramento and trips to Italy.
Mary was a native of Sacramento and lived here her entire life. She graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento in 1943, after which she married the love of her life Dorino Marco Sozzi. They were married for 31 years until Dorino’s passing. They made their loving home in South Sacramento and raised three children. They owned and operated an independent garbage company in Sacramento called Suburban Disposal Company.
Mary was a devote Catholic and was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Florin Road for more than 50 years. Her love of the Lord was evident in how she joyfully lived her life each day and in the way she loved others. She participated in the church community as a member of the Women’s Guild and choir.
Mary loved children. She was active in her children’s lives as a Cub Scout Den Mother and member of the PTA and was always a loving, generous, and supportive mother. In her later years she was a babysitter for family, friends, and neighbors. Both the children in her care and their parents loved Mary because of the trustworthy, positive, fun, and loving care she always provided.
Mary loved life. She especially enjoyed doing things with her family such as ravioli feeds, holiday gatherings, picnics, and vacations. Her favorite place to vacation was Silver Lake. She went there for the first time as child, car camping with her mother and father. Her family continued to vacation there with Mary for over 75 years.
Mary is survived by her three children Diane Slater, Cathy (John) Sailor, and John (Susan) Sozzi. She leaves behind five grandsons, three great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and many nieces and nephews. All of these she greatly loved and touched deeply. She is preceded in death by her husband Dorino Sozzi, baby son Johnny Dorino Sozzi, sister Marty Hansen and son-in-law Terry Slater.
A rosary will be said for the repose of Mary’s soul on Thursday, September 28th at 6:30 p.m. and a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 29th at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment, all held at St. Mary’s Cemetery and Funeral Center at 6509 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento.
Mary, we will carry your memory with much love in our hearts forever.
