Mary Ann Fleming passed away at home on October 11, 2022 at the age of 85. Mary Ann was married to Benjamin Fleming for 64 years. She leaves her four children, Janet Lewis (John), Steve Fleming (Jacob Beentjes), Susan Farmer, Laurie Rodriguez; six grandchildren, Samantha (Ben), Michelle (Will), Daniel, Josh, Julia, Jason; and two great-granddaughters, Zelda and Ahri.
Mary Ann was born in Stockton, California, on January 8, 1937 to Arlon Rowen and Mary Theresa (Tomagne) Rowen. Mary Ann grew up in St. Helena, California and Sacramento, California. She graduated from Sacramento High School and Sacramento State University. In both schools she played the French horn in the marching band. With a teacher’s certificate, Mary Ann taught fourth grade at Maple Elementary School in Sacramento before starting a family.
Mary Ann enjoyed books, music, nature, camping, canoeing, and travelling. She was fluent in Spanish, and was happy to help translate for others. Mary Ann was a long time member of American Association of University Women. She was active and a Board Member with the Sacramento Friends of the Library.
A rosary will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 6 pm at St. Anthony’s church 660 Florin Road, Sacramento.
A memorial mass will be on Saturday, October 29 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Funeral Center Main Chapel, 6509 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento. A reception luncheon will follow the Mass.
