Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marleen Negri of Roseville, California, grew up in Los Angeles, attending Sherman Oaks High School. In 1953, while attending Los Angeles Valley Junior College, she met and married her husband of 67 years, Frank Negri. They then moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where Frank played football for the Oregon State Beavers. After graduation, they moved to Foothill Farms/Sacramento and raised three daughters while Frank coached the Foothill Mustangs for over 40 years. Marleen was the perfect coach’s wife, attending football games and cheering him on during his nearly 60-year coaching career. She could be reliably found in the stands, wearing team colors, and enthusiastically encouraging Frank’s players. Working over 20 years for Frito-Lay, she would frequently bring the players post-game treats. Marleen also had a passion for music, and together with Frank and daughter, Lisa, volunteered for many years with the Sacramento Jazz Festival.
Marleen was predeceased by daughter Marisa Negri Galli, and leaves behind adoring husband Frank Negri, daughters Lisa Negri-Bartels (Sam) and Francesca Negri (John), and her beloved grandchildren, Vincent and Samantha Bartels, Kathryn Benson, and Cara McIntyre.
Services will be held at the Calvary Cemetery and Funeral Center at 7101 Verner Ave., Citrus Heights on Friday, March 24th at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Marleen’s favorite charities: 1) Saint Joseph Indian School (South Dakota) or 2) the Special Olympics.
