Mario Rojas
- June 13, 1959 - September 9, 2026
Mario Rojas, age 67, died September 9, 2026, after a valiant fight against cancer. Mario leaves behind Laura, his wife of forty-five years, and his beloved five children: Linda (Jared) Celey-Butlin; Julia (Ryan) Carlson; Sara (Justin Kuris) Rojas; Michael (Jenna) Rojas; and Dominic (Danna) Rojas and his grandchildren: Christopher Celey-Butlin; Jaclyn Celey-Butlin; Noah Rojas; and Amelia Rojas who were the treasures of his later years.
Mario never met a stranger. He made friends with everyone wherever he went – which was sometimes frustrating if the goal was a quick trip to the grocery store. He was a school teacher in West Sacramento for twenty-eight years teaching kindergarten through high school. He was also very involved in his children’s schools and sports, often coaching. He was active in his church as well. Mario was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. His family was often surprised by his running into people he knew no matter where the family went. He was easy to recognize because he maintained his dark hair up to the end and wore the same hairstyle for over forty years.
Mario started off in life with his close-knit family of twelve in Yuba City, California. He developed his love of sports, and his daredevil and non-conforming personality early on and treasured the memories of his youth. He was predeceased in death by his parents Selso and Manuela Rojas and brothers David Rojas, Armando Miramontes, Angel Rojas, and Tony Rojas and sister Carmen Santos. He leaves behind his brothers and sisters: Gonzalo (Priscilla) Rojas; Victor (Judi) Rojas; Robert (Retha) Rojas, MaryEllen (Victor) Lopez; Peter (Linda) Rojas and Trina (Constancio) Pinedo; his sisters-in-law Shirley Miramontes, Debra Rojas and Josephine Rojas, his brother-in-law Jose Manuel Santos and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
Mario will have a viewing on September 22nd from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Calvary Cemetery & Funeral Center Resurection Chapel with a Vigil and recitation of the Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. A Rite of Christian Burial Mass will also be at Calvary Cemetery and Funeral Center Resurrection Chapel at 11:00 AM on September 23rd. Committal will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery. All are invited for a reception afterwards in the hall.
