It is with heavy hearts that we share that Maria Teresa Duran passed away March 9, 2024, at her home in Elk Grove, California.

Teresa was born in Mazatlán, Mexico May 24,1934 to parents Jorge A. Villa and Maria De La Mora De Villa.  Teresa grew up in Mazatlán with her three brothers and sister.  As an adult she worked for a local newspaper.  Teresa’s dream was to provide a better life and opportunities for herself and her children which prompted her courageous move to the United States.

She married Maximiliano Montes Duran on July 3, 1962, and started a new life and family with Max’s four children and her own two children.  The family resided in Sacramento County, California until her passing.

Teresa realized her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse after completing her Associate of Arts degree from Sacramento City College in 1972.  She began her lifelong nursing career working at Kaiser Hospital from 1972 – 1997 upon her retirement.

Teresa was preceded in death by her husband Maximiliano Montes Duran, stepdaughter Alicia Christine Duran and brothers, Salvador Villa, and Jorge Hector Villa.

Teresa is survived by her sons, Fernando (Vanessa) Villa, Luis Guillermo (Blanca) Villa, and her grandchildren Natasha Mendoza Villa, Fernando Villa Jr., Alexandra Villa, Noelle Villa, Ilana Villa, Camilla Villa, and Lucas Villa. Teresa is also survived by stepchildren Kenneth Gregory (Patrice) Duran, Laura (Mike) Colozzi and Linda Miller Duran. Her surviving step grandchildren include Jim Boyd, Gregory Duran, Michael Colozzi Jr. and Lisa Adda, Martin Colin, and Celena Colin.  Teresa is also survived by her sister, Eugenia Maldonado and brother, Fernando Villa.

Teresa will be remembered as a courageous, loving, and beautiful woman who always sought to better herself and her loving family.

A memorial service will be held April 3, 2024, at 10a.m. at St. Mary’s Chapel 6509 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento, Ca. 95820.  A reception lunch will be held immediately after the service at St. Mary’s reception hall.
