Maria Remedios Albaniel Solomon
- February 17, 1949 - June 25, 2026
Maria Remedios Albaniel Solomon was called home on June 25, 2026. Remy was surrounded by her loved ones as she finally found peace and rest after decades of battling metastatic breast cancer. She will be forever remembered for her gift of music, her generosity, and her spirit.
Born in Manila, Philippines, on February 17, 1949, Remy was the youngest daughter of seven children. She grew up in the province of Albay, Bicol, before graduating with a degree in medical technology from Centro Escolar University in Manila. In 1977, Remy immigrated to the United States, first arriving in Guam and then eventually relocating to Northern California. In 1979, she met Antonio T. Solomon, DVM at a family party; they were married in 1981. Their eldest daughter Amanda was born in 1982, followed by the birth of their second daughter Reanne in 1984. In 1985, the family moved to Sacramento, CA where they opened Valley Hi Pet Clinic that April. Tony and Remy worked side by side daily to build their small veterinary practice in the South Sacramento community until their retirement in 2017. For over three decades, Remy and Tony served their clients, caring for beloved pets, while also taking up leadership roles in the local Filipino American community.
Remy’s life is defined by her beautiful voice and love of music that she always offered up in service to others. She sang weekly in the choir at St. Charles Borromeo Church, lending her gift of song to celebrations of weddings, baptisms, and funerals as well. She was also an active member and leader in multiple organizations: the Filipino Community of Sacramento and Vicinity, the Filipino Women’s Club, the Philippine National Day Association, the Filipino Cultural Dance Association, and the Malaya Lions Club. From 2005 to 2019, Remy served as the musical director for Bayanihan of Sacramento’s annual Christmas concerts.
More than two decades ago, Remy and her husband Tony founded Bayanihan of Sacramento with close friends to organize events to address multiple needs in the local and international Filipino community. Their annual concerts were always an entertaining and memorable event that supported orphaned children in the Philippines as well as St. Charles Borromeo parish. Only the onset of a global pandemic and the recurrence of cancer kept Remy and Tony from continuing their work with Bayanihan of Sacramento. Their dedication to community and commitment to serving others live on in their children and grandchildren.
Remy is preceded in death by her father Eulogio Albaniel, mother Luz Del Rosario Albaniel, brothers Jose and Arnold, and sister Gilda. She is survived by her sisters Edith and Mila as well as brothers Tony and Francis. She is deeply missed by her husband Tony, daughter Amanda and her partner Ferchil, and daughter Reanne and her husband Troy. She will be remembered always by her grandchildren Asa, Lucy, Arya, and Amaya. She is adored by the countless nieces, nephews, and cousins who called her their favorite and will be missed deeply by her BFFs and friends everywhere.
The vigil for Remy will be held Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 5pm to 8pm at St. Charles Borromeo Church (7584 Center Pkwy, Sacramento, CA 95823). On Friday, July 24, visitation will begin at St. Charles at 9am, followed by a funeral mass at 10am, and burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery (6509 Fruitridge Rd, Sacramento, CA 95820). Please join us as we celebrate her life.
