Maria Garcia

Maria Teodula Garcia Torres, a longtime resident of Sacramento, California, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born on February 17, 1934, in the rural agricultural community of Corrales in Tepehuanes, Durango, Mexico, Maria’s early life was rooted in the traditions of her small community. In 1961, her life took a new direction when she married Ernesto Garcia and relocated to the United States, joining her husband who had established a new home there. For over five decades, Maria resided in the Meadowview neighborhood of Sacramento.

For many years, Maria was a seasonal worker at the former Hunt-Wesson tomato processing plant in Davis. Her strong work ethic and dedication were evident in all aspects of her life.

She was a regular churchgoer, first at St. Anne’s Parish on 24th Street and later at St. Charles Borromeo on Center Parkway. Her commitment to her faith extended to her community involvement, as she volunteered at St. Anne’s School during the 1980s.

Maria’s greatest joy came from her family. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of over six decades, Ernesto Garcia; her brother, Julian Garcia; and her children: Ernest and husband David, Thomasz and wife Stacy, Paul and partner Josanne, and Lisa. Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: Alexandria, Cesaer, Sabrina, and Sydnie; and her cherished great-granddaughters, Camila and Zeneth.

Maria was preceded in death by her siblings: Angela, Arnoldo, Gregoria, Jose, and Micaela. Though they are no longer with us, the bonds of family remained strong throughout her life.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Maria’s life. A vigil and rosary will be held on Tuesday, April 29th, at 5:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Funeral Center Chapel, located at 6505 Fruitridge Road in Sacramento. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 30th, at 10:00 a.m., also at St. Mary’s Funeral Center Chapel, followed by the committal at the same location.

Maria’s warm spirit, unwavering faith, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
