Margaret “Margie” Lucero

Margaret “Margie” (Woods) Lucero was born on March 20, 1930 in Gallup, NM; the fifth daughter of William Woods and Pauline Otero.  Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Josie Archibeque, Isabel Saiz, Dorothy Rea, and Patsy Lujan; and her daughter, Priscilla Wong.  She is survived by her husband, Julian Lucero; sister Angie Bustamonte; daughters Debbie Ramirez, Cathy Saldana, and Kim Lucero; and grandchildren, Monique Moreno, Chino Moreno, Margie Moreno, Joseph Moreno, Julian Moreno, Hector Saldana, Eric Saldana, and Alex Saldana.

When she was a teenager, Margie moved to Sacramento, CA to live with her sister.  In Sacramento, Margie worked very hard to raise her three daughters, Priscilla, Deborah, and Cathy as a single Mom.  She was the first employee of Jimboy’s Tacos in the early 1950s, where she helped build the Jimboy’s empire with her famous “taco burgers” – which is still a menu item!  By the time her three daughters were teenagers, she opened her own business, Taco Hut, in Midtown Sacramento on 16th Street and Broadway, near The Tower Theatre.  Margie sold her business in 1974 to her niece and moved to Aztec, NM with her granddaughter Kim, who she raised as her own.  There, she opened her second restaurant, Margie’s Taco Hut.  In January 1978, Margie married Julian Lucero, a heavy equipment operator and former rodeo cowboy.  They moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1983, where Margie worked the assembly line at Revlon.  Margie and Julian moved to Roseville, CA in 1996, where she spent the rest of her life.

This beautiful soul was known as Margie to most, Aunt Margaret to many, Nana to many more, a Daughter, a Sister, a Wife, and most of all – a Mom.  She had an infectious smile, a sense of humor and loved to laugh!  Her favorite pastime was playing bingo.  She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, water skiing, playing cards and board games with her family, putting together puzzles, and watching movies.  Family was most important to Margie.  She loved giving everyone special attention and cooking for them!  Some of her famous dishes were her traditional tamales, empanadas and biscochitos at Christmas time.

Margie passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by family on August 19, 2024. She leaves behind her husband of 46 years, her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, sister, and friends who will cherish the love and memories forever in their hearts.
