In Loving Memory of Louis “Lou” Soto

December 11, 1950 – August 6, 2026

Louis “Lou” Soto, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 6, 2026, in Elk Grove, California. He was born on December 11, 1950, in Sacramento, California.

Lou proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was deployed to Vietnam for 12 months. Following his honorable discharge, he began a 40-year career with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), working in the Line Division in both the Tree Department and Line Department.

Lou was a hard worker who took great pride in his work. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed the physical challenges that came with his job. He was known for his quick laugh, warm smile, strong work ethic, and ability to find joy in the simple moments of life. His years of service to his country and his dedication to his career were a testament to his strength, determination, and character.

After retiring from SMUD in 2012, Lou fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling. He and Lynn purchased a fifth-wheel trailer and set out to explore the country together. They traveled extensively throughout the United States, drove to Alaska twice, and explored the western portion of Canada multiple times, including an unforgettable journey to the Arctic Ocean.

Lou loved the freedom of the open road and discovering new places. He especially enjoyed learning about the Indigenous peoples who lived in the small communities they visited. He took a genuine interest in their history, culture, traditions, and way of life. For Lou, traveling was about more than seeing new places—it was about meeting people, hearing their stories, learning from their experiences, and appreciating the beauty and uniqueness of each community.

His adventures with Lynn created countless cherished memories and became a special chapter in their life together.

Above all, Lou loved his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lynn Soto, and his children: Tamera Oliver, Rudy Soto, Robert Soto, William Soto, Aaron Soria, and Ryan Soria.

He is also survived by his siblings: Robert Roma, Sylvia Lopez, Mary Lopez, Michael Soto, and Anna Soto, as well as his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, who will carry his memory forward for generations to come.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolfo Soto and Lupe Ramirez, and his siblings, Christina Wilson, Rachael Solis, and Harry Romo.

Lou leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of hard work, service, adventure, laughter, and love. He will be remembered for his quick smile, adventurous spirit, appreciation for the outdoors, and the love he shared with his family. The many miles he traveled and the people and places he encountered along the way were part of a life well lived.

Though he will be deeply missed, Lou’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Semper Fi, Lou.

May he rest in peace.
