Josefina Miranda Agbunag

Josefina Miranda Agbunag, born January 1, 1923, in Catbangan, San Fernando La Union, Philippines was entered into rest surrounded by her loving family and friends on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. She was the daughter of Policarpio Miranda and Miguela Garcia.  Josefina met and later married her husband Baltazar Agbunag on May 14, 1946, a US army solder when he returned to visit family in her home town of Catbangan.  She boarded on a ship called the S. S. President Cleveland from Manila on October 10, 1950 immigrating to the US entering through the Port of San Francisco on November 2, 1950 to join her husband. They settled in a small Filipino farm community in Florin Sacramento.  On June 1954, the family moved into a new home on Florin Rd.

Every spring, Josefina enjoyed growing a large garden comprised of many oriental vegetables which she generously shared harvesting with local friends and from as far as the Bay Area and Yuba City.  She loved growing flowers and worked at the Okie Nursery for 10 years.  She was an active member of the American Legion Post 604 Woman’s Auxiliary, a life time member of the Filipino Women’s Club and the Pangasinan Association.  Josefina was a devoted Catholic and member of St Paul’s Catholic Church and volunteered as a usher and special events since 1957.

Josefina is preceded in death by her husband Baltazar, son David and grandson Francisco.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her son Virgil and wife Noli, daughter Myrna and Tony, Manuel. Grandchildren: Jennifer, Joseph and Melissa, Eric and Elena, Vincent, Tiffany, David and Tracy, Lourdes and Jerry, Diana and Ray.  Great grandchildren: Jerry, Kristin, Tiffany, Ryan, Joshua, Christian, Morgan, Mariana, Esperanza, Jaice, Greyson, Joseph, Luke, Mia and Josie, Sophia and Angelina. Great great grandchildren: Preston, Elijah, Oliver, Maverick, Carmen, Karina, Carson, Coulson, Mila and Harper.  

 

Vigil services will be held Monday, January 2nd from 5pm until 8pm with rosary beginning 6pm at St. Mary Funeral Center Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00am, Tuesday, January 3rd at St. Paul Church 8720 Florin Rd, Sacramento followed by Committal services at St. Mary Cemetery 6700 21st Avenue, Sacramento.
