JoAnn Marie Meraz Pacheco

JoAnn Marie Pacheco (Meraz), aged 65, was called to her heavenly home on January 14, 2024. Born on April 19, 1958, in Sacramento, CA, she was a cherished child of God, entrusted to the late Jesse and Louise Meraz.

A testament to divine love and compassion, JoAnn was a beacon of humility and kindness. Her life was a reflection of her unwavering faith, as she humbly served her community, family, and friends with a heart full of gratitude. JoAnn’s nurturing soul and her respect for all of God’s creation were evident in her devotion to her family, her care for her pets, and her enjoyment of the natural world on her many travels with loved ones to Apple Hill, New Mexico, Alaska, Utah(with sisters), and Disneyland.

JoAnn’s journey through life was marked by her commitment to her vocation. She served with grace at the Winters School District, Cache Creek Casino (as a Shop Steward), Sacramento School District, and Mercy General Hospital. She was a graduate of Sacramento High School, where she began cultivating the seeds of knowledge that would flourish throughout her life.

Her spiritual path was walked in fellowship with her church family at the Cathedral of Blessed Sacrament and St. Anthony Parish, where she found strength and solace in communal worship and prayer.

JoAnn’s hobbies were a joyful expression of her creative spirit. Whether she was boxing, hiking, camping, tending to her garden, or baking her renowned Dutch Apple Pies, her actions were an offering of love and a celebration of the gifts bestowed upon her.

She leaves behind her devoted spouse, Richard Pacheco Sr.; her loving children, Richard Pacheco Jr. (Sofia), Sarah Venegas (Rosalio), and Joseph Pacheco (Linda); her adored granddaughters, Delores Pacheco and Estrella Venegas; and an eagerly awaited third grandchild. Her spirit is also carried on by her sisters Becky Correa, Annette Mitchem (Richard), Amy McCormick (Patrick), and Margie Byrd (Donald), alongside many treasured nieces, nephews, and friends.

A vigil in JoAnn’s honor will commence with a viewing on February 15th at St. Mary’s Cemetery & Funeral Center in Sacramento, CA, beginning at 5pm, followed by a rosary from 6pm to 8pm. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on February 16th at 2pm.
