Jerry Martin

Jerry Martin was born September 2, 1937, in Clovis, New Mexico. He grew up in Albuquerque on his family’s ranch, where they raised cattle and thoroughbred race horses. His love of horses and racing remained with him throughout his life.

Jerry attended the New Mexico Military Institute from 7th through 12th grades. According to his mother, she thought a little structure might be good for him. Jerry thrived there, becoming an accomplished tennis and polo player. He remained a good skier and an excellent athlete throughout his life.

After graduating from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Civil Engineering, Jerry moved to California and enjoyed a 41-year career with CalTrans. He earned his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering while raising his family and continued working part-time as a CalTrans consultant until 2026. Retirement clearly wasn’t quite his style.

Jerry and Margaret enjoyed traveling in their motor home. He was a devoted husband to Margaret throughout their life together and cared for her through her battle with Alzheimer’s until her passing in 2023.

He loved his family and treasured time with his children, grandchildren, in-laws, extended family, and friends. He was an avid reader, a loyal 49ers and Kings fan, and a lifelong dog lover. He shared his home with many Welsh Corgis over the years, even taking some of them to dog shows. His beloved Remy was his constant companion and misses him immensely.

Jerry stayed active with yoga, walking his dog, workouts, and water fitness, and even took up the ukulele. He also embraced every new gadget, always keeping up with the latest technology.

Jerry had a curious mind, a love of learning, and an independent spirit. He enjoyed staying busy, trying new things, keeping up with the world around him, and sharing his knowledge and opinions with the people he loved. He lived life on his own terms, with determination, humor, and a little bit of stubbornness that we will always remember fondly.

We will miss his humor, his stories, his opinions, and most of all, simply having him here.

We love you & we will miss you always.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, October 3, 2026, 1:00 pm at Calvary Funeral Center, 7100 Verner Avenue, Citrus Heights. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
