Irene Gloria Viramontes

July 7, 1945 – August 13, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Irene Viramontes shares with you her passing. Irene was born in Yolo, Ca. Her family later moved to Sacramento where she attended Edward Kelly Elementary, Kit Karson Middle School and graduated from Hiram Johnson High School. Irene retired from the State of California, Department of Corrections where she proudly worked for 30 years.

Irene was a beloved daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend who was loved by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Annabelle Viramontes; granddaughters, Jessica and Ariana; nephew Justin; and brother-in-law Tom. She is survived by her children David Bailey, Benny Bailey, Nicole (Mike) Robinson; grandchildren DJ, Amina (Kaelen), Jalen (Brea) and great-grandchildren, Gabby, Laniya, Angela, Julian and Kairo; siblings Ben (Laurie), Ray (Normajean), Rita, Linda (Steve), Gloria, Gabriel (Marri), Cindy; many nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of extended family and friends.

Irene loved and adored her children and grandchildren. She cherished the time she got to spend with them and spoke of them with pride and joy. Family was her greatest blessing! Irene cherished spending time at the casino with her sisters where many great memories were made. Her love for music, especially listening to Motown and oldies, filled her life with joy and happiness. Her unconditional love for family and friends, big heart, and beautiful smile will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, September 15, 2025, 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Cemetery and Funeral Center Chapel, 6509 Fruitridge Rd. Sacramento, Ca 95820.

In honor of Irene’s wishes, there will not be a reception or gathering following the mass.
