Francene Minnie Roby

Francene Minnie Roby, a lifelong Sacramento resident, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, at the age of 85.  Born to Samuel and Frances Ostoja, who immigrated from Croatia, she was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Mary, George, and Pauline; her husband, Norris Roby; and her sons, Tim and Tom.  She is survived by her sister Catherine and many loving nieces and nephews.

Francene attended Holy Angels Catholic School and Bishop Armstrong High School in Sacramento.  She worked at Kress’s in downtown Sacramento during high school. Francene also had a career of over 25 years at California State University, Sacramento.  She proudly worked in the admissions department assisting immigrant students through the application process.

Francene and her family lived in River Park and later moved to College Greens, where she was known for her beautiful front-yard flower garden, friendly spirit, and service as head of the neighborhood watch.

As a longtime member of the Croatian American Social Club in Sacramento, Francene enjoyed many events and dinners with her sisters, Catherine and Pauline and cherished time with her Croatian friends.

Francene will be laid to rest in a private burial at St. Mary Cemetery, where she will be reunited with her beloved husband, Norris, and her sons, Tim and Tom.  She will be remembered for her warmth, strength, deep love of her family and devotion to her faith.
