Erma Marie Buttacavoli

May 1, 1931 – November 3, 2024

Erma Buttacavoli was born Erma Marie Meyer on May 1, 1931. She was raised on a peach orchard outside of Gridley, California, with her older brother, Hubert, and sister, Barbara. Both Erma and her brother finished college—the first in their family to do so. It was at Chico State College that Erma fell in love with Russ, a handsome veteran studying with her in the teacher education program.

Erma and Russ spent their entire careers teaching in public schools in the North Sacramento area. They raised three daughters—Lorretta (Lori), Annette (Ann), and Mary Ellen—all of whom also graduated from college. Russ died in 1983, shortly after retiring, but Erma carried on teaching at Skycrest Elementary School until 1995.

After she retired, Erma continued to support teachers and kids. She volunteered in classrooms and leading tours at the Crocker Art Museum, and she loved to spend time with her grandkids. She also was active with her book club and playing Bunco and liked to travel with family and friends. One of the things of which she was most proud was that she and Russ, on teachers’ salaries, had been able to set aside money to be handed down to help their grand- and great-grandchildren go to college if they choose.  She will be greatly missed.

Services for Erma will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the Calvary Cemetery and Funeral Center, 7100 Verner Ave., Citrus Heights, CA  95621.  There will be a Viewing starting at 10am, a Funeral Service at 11am, then the graveside service at Noon.
