Edward John Bier Sr.

Edward J. Bier Sr. passed away peacefully at home on November 12^th, 2024 in Sacramento, California, at the age of 94. He was born on July 13, 1930, in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. During his childhood, his family moved and settled in Sacramento where his parents lovingly raised him and his siblings.  After graduating from McClatchy High School, Edward served in the United States Air Force as a pilot mechanic. Edward married the love of his life, the late Alice Kalin Bier and together they raised four children. Edward worked for Pacific Telephone Company for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, and was a huge sports enthusiast especially for the Oakland A’s and the Sacramento Kings.  His other favorite past time was going to the casinos to play the slot machines.

Edward Sr. was a beloved father to his daughters, Sherrie Kelley, Debra Drewes, Tina Ferguson, and his son, Eddie Bier Jr.  Father-in-law to Mark Drewes, Charlotte Bier and the late Hugh Ferguson.  He was a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren, ten Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He will forever be in the hearts of his loved ones near and far.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Barbara Bier, his beloved wife, Alice Bier and his seven siblings; John Bier, Annie Spaulding, Rosie Westlake, Helen Watters, Elizabeth Bier, Katherine Bier, and Fritz Bier.

Family and friends are welcome to the visitation on November 30, 2024, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by a Catholic Mass and burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery & Funeral Center, 6509 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento, CA, 95820.  Luncheon reception to follow at the family home.
