Edith Watson Cassidy
Obituary-Edie Cassidy October 11, 2023
Edith “Edie” Watson Cassidy passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family members at her
home on October 11, 2023. She was 93 years old.
Edie was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John A. Watson and Edith Freese
Watson. She attended West View High School in Pittsburgh, graduating 1948. She then attended the
University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) where she pledged Chi Omega Fraternity. Following her time at Pitt, Edie
joined Trans World Airlines (TWA) as an in-flight hostess, based in Newark, New Jersey. It was in New
Jersey that Edie met her future husband Justin “Jud” Cassidy. They soon moved to Wilmette, Illinois,
where they started their family.
While raising their family, Edie joined the TWA Clipped Wings International organization of retired Flight
Attendants. She eventually rose to the office of International President of the association during which
time she traveled the world, developing friendships along the way. In Illinois, Edie and Jud had four
children before moving to Sacramento in 1969. Soon after their move they welcomed their fifth child,
Christopher, who became Edie’s treasured friend and caregiver. They were a peach of a pair.
Edie will also be remembered as proudly serving as secretary at St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School from
1983 through 1989. Edie was proud to have raised her five children Jay, Jim, Sharon Williams, Dianne
Winn, and Christopher Cassidy and is also survived by seven grandchildren.
Edie and Jud enjoyed their home and were happy members of the Wilhaggin neighborhood since 1969.
When at home, Edie was the ultimate household manager, cooking, sewing and herding her five
children. She was an excellent cook and sewed and knit many wonderful items that are in use to this
day. They enjoyed friends and family, and she was a lifelong bridge player.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 26th at Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 7101 Verner
Avenue, Citrus Heights. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 1:00 with Funeral Mass at 1:00 followed by
burial and reception at the Calvary Reception Center. Friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to Sutter Health Hospice.
