Dorothy Theresa Lindke
- November 16, 1925 - August 11, 2024
Dorothy (Dottie) Lindke passed away at her home in Rancho Cordova on Sunday, August 11, 2024. She was 98 years old.
Dorothy was born November 16, 1925 in Dodge, Nebraska to Frank and Catharina Linnenbrink. She was the 4th of 11 children, and grew up in Wasco, California. In 1946, she moved to the Sacramento area, where she worked at Mather Air Force Base.
Dorothy married Elmer Lindke on November 21, 1954. They lived in Carmichael, California until 1959, when they bought a new home in Rancho Cordova. They raised their 4 children there.
Dorothy was very involved in her church and community, while also supporting all of the activities of her 4 children. She became a parishioner at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in 1958, served on the Parish Council, on various committees at the Parish school, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a 75-year member of YLI, a Catholic Women’s Organization. She served on the Rancho Cordova Community Council, was active with the Cordova Food Locker and was Rancho Cordova Neighborhood Chairman for Girl Scouts. She was recognized with numerous awards for her volunteer activities including the top award of the California Congress of PTA.
She was one of the founders and first treasurer of Mather Federal Credit Union (now Heritage).
Dorothy bowled for many years in local leagues and some state tournaments. She narrowly missed a perfect game one time, scoring a 297.
Dorothy and Elmer were members of the Sacramento Valley Pilots Association, and they flew all over the country in their Cessna. They also travelled extensively, pulling their Airstream through Alaska and the lower 48, and made many friends in the Airstream Club. They were avid “rockhounds”, and made many trips to Quartzite from their winter home in Yuma.
She is survived by her children: Teri (Steven) Krouse, Fred (Julie) Lindke, Sharon (Chris) Steurer, and Ken Lindke; 2 sisters: Francis and Delores; grandchildren: Cheryl, Gail, Evan, Emma, and Jakob; great grandchildren: Tyler, Ethan, Jacob and Matthew; great-great grandchild: Greyson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by most of her family and friends, but those who are still around remember her as one of the kindest, caring people they knew. She always had a smile on her face and a contagious laugh. She loved to bake and was happy to make and decorate cakes for any occasion. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
