Dalia Herrera Lopez

Our mother, was born in the town of Papacal, Yucatán, located in the outskirts of the city of Merida.  On, August 6th 1943, she was born to Liborio Herrera and Paula Moo. During her childhood, she lived with her maternal grandparents, and learned to speak the Mayan language, due to her grandmother’s not being able to speak Spanish, fluently. In 1971, she immigrated to the United States, along with my brother, Frank aka: Javier, myself and my younger brother Gary, at the time. She went on, to welcome another child in 1972, our younger brother, Alex.  She worked for the county of Sacramento for nearly 30 years, as caregiver to the elderly; before that she worked farm jobs, in the tomato, pepper fields, and for for cannery’s that packaged and canned fruits and vegetables. She retired, in 2011, and later fought breast cancer twice, in 2013 and 2021, and beat it. Our mother is survived, by her only daughter, Yulissa, and two Son’s Gary and Alex, while our older Frank passed away, nearly five months before her, of  ALS.

She is also survived by granddaughters, Andreína, Liliana, Leah, and grandsons, Antonio, Carlos, Ryan, and Ivan…2 great grandchildren, Rosie, and Ryan Jr…..her sisters Lola, Lilia, and Maribel….brothers, Miguel, Gonzalo, and Agusto. …..several nieces and nephews, great nephews, nieces and cousins. She lived her last 54 years of life, in Sacramento, since immigrating to the United States. To say we loved her, and will miss her, is an understatement.
