Cristina Maria Salas

It is with our deepest regret, and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Cristina Maria Salas on May 23 2024 in San Francisco, California. She was diagnosed in 2022 with fibrosis of the lungs after battling Covid in 2021. She was placed on oxygen and in February 2024 she was placed on the transplant list. On April 18th she was admitted into the hospital as her oxygen level was increased beyond what her home machines could provide. On April 21, 2024 she got the news that they found a match and headed to surgery. Cristina fought valiantly and gave everything she had but tragically succumbed to primary graft dysfunction after two failed dual lung transplants.

Cristina was born on September 26, 1961 to João (deceased) and Mary Neves in São Paulo Brasil. She immigrated to America with her parents and younger brother João “Zeno” at the age of 7.

Later in life, while working with her father at Blomberg‘s, she met the love of her life Manuel Salas, much to her father‘s dismay (at the time) they fell in love and were married in 1980. They welcomed their first child Rosemary in January 1981. Son Jimmy would follow in April 1983, and son Alex in August 1984.

For the betterment of her family, Cristina worked tirelessly and went to school to get her certificate from MTI college and became a certified insurance claims adjuster which she did for many years until she had to resign due to her medical diagnosis in 2022.

She loved to travel, she loved the ocean, loved to camp, loved music, to sing and to dance; but above all else she loved her family, nothing or no one held a higher place in her heart than her grandchildren. She loved them fiercely and endlessly.

Cristina was preceded in death by her father, João Neves, and is survived by her husband Manuel Salas, her mother Mary Neves, daughter Rosemary Seely (Scott Seely), son Jimmy Salas (Racheal Salas), son Alex Salas (Jazmine Yadao), Brother João “Zeno” Neves (Paula Peterson), brother Daniel Neves (Adriana Neves), sister Maria “Lurdes” Neves, and her grandchildren Damion Lima, Ashley Lima, Matthew Seely, Isabella Seely, Aiden Salas, Mia Salas and Jax Yadao. And her beloved nieces and nephews.

Cristina will always be remembered for having the biggest heart being a gentle soul, her wittiness, her laugh and mostly for the ferocity in which she loved.
