Consuelo Leandro Heredia (1938-2024)

After a long life of service and love, Consuelo Leandro Heredia, 85, of Sacramento CA, sadly passed away on the morning of Saturday, January 27th, 2024.

Beloved wife of her husband, Joseph Frank Heredia and adored mother of Beatrice Sparks, Francisco Heredia and Amparo Heredia, along with 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Consuelo was preceded in death by her sons Alejandro Heredia in 1992 and Jesus Heredia in 2023.

Consuelo was born on October 20th, 1938 at the family “Ranchito” near Tabasco Zacatecas Mexico, where she lived most of her young life. She was the 4th of 10 children of Adolfo Leandro and Maria Ruiz.  She lived in Tabasco, Aguascalientes, and Juarez before coming to Los Angeles.

Consuelo immigrated to the US in 1968. She married, had children, and raised them in Los Angeles, all while learning English, and obtaining a driver’s license in her 30’s.  With her green thumb, her back yard was always a beautiful sight to see in bloom. She often was given rose clippings during pruning times at the Exposition Park Rose Garden and used them to grow beautiful roses for herself and others. Many plants and roses moved with her from house to house and city to city. If Consuelo was not cooking a delicious meal for the family, or to share, she could be found outside tending to her garden and trees.  As a devout Catholic, she raised her family in the faith and was often volunteering in many church functions. As a born and raised Mexican, she loved her culture and sharing it with her family and friends through her cooking. Consuelo worked as a seasonal clerk at the California Franchise Tax Board and later retired from there.

She moved the family to Sacramento in 1987 from Los Angeles in the hopes of a more peaceful environment to raise the still young members of the family.

Consuelo became a US naturalized citizen of the United States on May 31st, 1995 because she believed that everyone that has the power to vote, should do so as a matter of civil pride.

Service will be held on Saturday, March 9th. Visitation is from 1:00 to 1:30pm, and Liturgy and committal is from 1:30 to 3pm. All followed by a reception all at St. Mary’s Cemetery Center, 6509 Fruitridge Rd, Sacramento, CA 95820. Florist for the event will be Relles Florist,
