Bettye Parham Saunders

January 19, 1935 – February 15, 2025

Bettye Saunders, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on February 15th.  Born in Atlanta to Johnny and Carolyn Parham, Betty graduated from Spellman College

She fulfilled her lifelong dream when she relocated to San Francisco.  There, she became a school teacher.  She later returned to her scholastic endeavors, resulting in her earning double master’s degree.  One masters degree in psychology from the University of San Francisco; the other master’s degree in education from California State University at San Francisco.  After having served in the San Francisco Unified School District for more than two decades, both as a teacher and administrator, Bettye retired to the suburbs of Sacramento.

Bettye was an avid reader, piano player, and a world traveler, visiting such venues as Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, Great Britain, and Greece to name a few.

She is survived by her three younger siblings: Johnny Parham, Jr. (Ann), Carolyn (Robert Davis), and Norman Parham.  She is also survived by her four children: Dee, Trae, Daphne Wroge (Stephen Wroge), and Johnny Saunders (Colleen).  She is also survived by four grandchildren, including Austin who resided with her.

Bettye will be missed by all who knew her.

A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities.
