Antonio “Tony” de Melo

Antonio (Tony) Narciso Ribeiro de Melo, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born on January 28, 1939, in Sao Miguel, Azores.  He came to America in the 1960s and lived in various California cities finally making his home in Sacramento. He worked as a grocery clerk for Don Quick stores and Costco. Tony had four sisters (Leonor Pimentel, deceased, from Sao Miguel; Alda Raposa, and Suzana Rebello from New Bedford and Ilda Lake, from Swansea) and two brothers (Altino de Melo from Acushnet and John C. Melo of New Bedford).

Antonio’s passion and devotion was photography.  He started filming weddings, served as the main photographer for a Hispanic newspaper, and, of course, he was the official family photographer.  His humor and his love of taking photos as well as showing everyone his love through photos brought joy to many of his loved ones.

Tony lived a life through a lens of showing the beauty of life, family gatherings, family living their everyday lives as well as capturing the beauty of the world and of the island, Sao Miguel, Azores  with his favorite red camera.

He loved to travel with his family.  He was a devoted husband to Ana, father to Dori (Michael), Chris (Regina) and Nicholas (Shannon); grandfather to Kaitlin (Tommy), Jeremy, Mason, Matt and Nikko; and great-grandfather to Brock. His grandchildren brought him endless pride and joy.

He will be remembered for his warm personality and sense of humor.
