Anna Mae Barnett
- August 29, 1931 - April 23, 2025
Mrs. Anna (Ann) Mae Barnett, age 93, of Citrus Heights, California, died peacefully on April 23, 2025 after a brief illness. Ann entered life on August 29, 1931, in Campbell, Ohio. She was raised in Ohio and moved to California after enlisting into the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. While in the Marine Corps, Ann rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and it was at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station that she met the love of her life, fellow Marine and future husband, Donald Ray Barnett. Ann would proudly brag and tease Donald throughout their lifetime together of outranking him. Donald would lovingly call Ann “Sarge” out of both love and respect. Ann and Donald were united in marriage on June 23, 1956 in Youngstown, Ohio and they remained devotedly married for sixty-seven years until his death in 2023. Ann will be missed immensely by her loving family and is survived by sons Bradley and his fiancée Teresa Tholen of Fair Oaks, California, Donald and his husband Trevor Perry of Concord, California, daughter Lisa and her husband Robert Burkhalter of Lincoln, California, her grandchildren Maryann, Emily, Megan, Michael, and Matthew, her great grandchildren Ebby, Quinn, Ryan, Boen, Brynley, Zoe, Easton, and Jonah, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in California and Ohio. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Donald R. Barnett, parents John W. and Anna R. Snitzer, her brothers John W. Snitzer Jr., Carl F. Snitzer and Edward S. Snitzer, her sister Elizabeth A. (Snitzer) Mackey and her daughter-in-law Deanne Barnett.
Ann was incredibly strong and resilient, a devoted wife, and an outstanding and protective mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Ann consistently placed her family’s needs above her own and would go to any length to support them. She was well known among family and friends for her beloved Chicken Paprikash and Stuffed Cabbage recipes, which she prepared with love whenever requested. Proud of her Hungarian heritage, Ann was also deeply religious and a devoted Catholic.
It is difficult to express in words that could adequately convey what Ann means to her family, except to say she is irreplaceable and will be missed immensely. We are grateful to have had her as ours for 93 years and we will cherish her memory forever.
