Green and Natural Burial Services

Catholic Funeral & Cemetery Services of the Diocese of Sacramento (CFCS ) has green-certified burial options for families.  The St. Francis of Assisi sections at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Rancho Maurita and St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Grass Valley are designated exclusively for Green Burial.

The St. Francis of Assisi sections are maintained in their natural state with minimum disturbance outside of the committals. Families may also choose between mechanical lowering of their loved one into the grave or hand lowering of their loved one by professional cemetery grounds staff.

There are no vaults or liners used in the St. Francis of Assisi section.  All committals are performed in a manner that results in direct contact with the soil.  All caskets and urns must be 100% wood or Green Burial Council certified.  Shrouds are also acceptable but must be made of all natural materials and preferably Green Burial Council certified.

Memorialization of the loved one may take place with a flat memorial or a bolder memorial but all memorialization is restricted to California sourced granite.

Artificial flowers and any other non-natural items are strictly prohibited in the St. Francis of Assisi Sections.
